**Mumbai, India –** Today marks the somber 16th anniversary of the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks, a day etched in the nation’s memory. On November 26, 2008, ten Lashkar-e-Taiba terrorists launched a series of coordinated attacks across the city, targeting iconic locations including the Taj Hotel, Oberoi Trident Hotel, Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus, and Leopold Cafe.

The attacks resulted in the tragic deaths of at least 166 people, including 26 foreigners and 20 security personnel, with over 300 more injured. The terrorists, arriving by sea from Pakistan, inflicted widespread devastation and terror.

* **Major Sandeep Unnikrishnan:** Awarded the Ashok Chakra posthumously, Major Unnikrishnan, an NSG commando, was fatally wounded while combating terrorists at the Taj Palace Hotel.

* **Hemant Karkare:** The Anti-Terrorist Squad chief, along with IPS officers Ashok Kamte and Vijay Salaskar, was killed during an operation near Cama Hospital.

* **Mallika Jagad:** The banquet manager at the Taj Hotel, Jagad’s calm leadership and swift actions protected numerous guests during the chaos.

* **Karambir Singh Kang:** Despite the personal tragedy of losing his family in the attacks, the Taj Hotel’s General Manager tirelessly worked to aid staff and security forces in the rescue efforts.

* **Thomas Varghese:** A senior waiter at the Taj’s Wasabi restaurant, Varghese ensured the safety of all patrons before sacrificing his own life.
