**ISLAMABAD, November 25, 2024** – A large-scale protest by supporters of jailed former Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan turned violent on Monday as they attempted to storm the capital city of Islamabad. Led by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur and Khan’s wife, Bushra Bibi, thousands of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party members clashed with police who had sealed off access routes to the city.
The ensuing violence resulted in the death of one police officer and injuries to several protesters. Authorities reported the arrest of approximately 4,000 demonstrators, including five members of parliament. Punjab province’s security official, Shahid Nawaz, confirmed the arrest figures. The protest aimed to pressure the government for the immediate release of Imran Khan from prison.
