Mon Nov 25 22:37:56 UTC 2024: ## Maha Vikas Aghadi alleges rigging in Maharashtra Assembly Election 2024; Senior Lawyer to challenge results in court

**Mumbai:** The Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) alliance has alleged widespread irregularities in the recently concluded Maharashtra Assembly elections, claiming the landslide victory of the Maha Yuti (grand alliance) is suspect. The Maha Yuti secured a clear majority, winning 236 seats, compared to MVA’s 49 and 3 other seats. Senior lawyer Asim Sarode has announced his intention to challenge the election results in court, citing the improbable scale of the Maha Yuti’s victory.

Sarode claims several defeated candidates have contacted him, expressing concerns about the election process. He believes the results are questionable and suspects EVM manipulation. He has called upon former EVM officials to come forward and shed light on potential vulnerabilities in the system. He further stated that not only candidates but also voters should challenge these results.

The BJP secured 132 seats, while other parties such as the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) and the Congress performed significantly below expectations. The Congress, despite garnering a substantial number of votes, won only 16 seats, while the NCP’s performance was also underwhelming, further fueling suspicions of irregularities. Notably, Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, despite issuing a challenge, faced defeat. Five MLAs who traveled to Surat and Guwahati also lost their seats.

While the Maha Yuti is preparing to form the government, Sarode’s legal challenge adds a significant layer of uncertainty to the political landscape. The outcome of his legal action will be closely watched.
