Tue Nov 26 10:13:55 UTC 2024: ## Himachal CM Advocates for Return to Ballot Papers, Citing EVM Reliability Concerns
**Shimla, India** – Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu has called for a return to ballot papers for elections, expressing concerns over the reliability of Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs). His statement follows similar concerns raised by Karnataka Home Minister G. Parameshwara regarding the security of election technology.
Sukhu argued that if doubts persist about the trustworthiness of electronic voting, reverting to the traditional method of ballot papers is necessary to eliminate any suspicion. He cited the potential for hacking, referencing comments by tech entrepreneur Elon Musk acknowledging the vulnerability of technology. “Even Elon Musk has admitted that technology can be hacked,” Sukhu stated, emphasizing the paramount importance of maintaining the integrity of the electoral process.
While addressing the inauguration of a District Council building in Shimla, Sukhu also touched upon other matters, including the upcoming two-year anniversary of the Congress party’s victory in Himachal Pradesh and the state government’s efforts to complete unfinished projects inherited from the previous BJP administration. He stated that the Congress government is committed to finishing these projects and ensuring the state’s progress. The Chief Minister’s comments on EVMs sparked immediate debate, highlighting ongoing discussions about the security and reliability of modern election technology.
