Mon Nov 25 17:20:00 UTC 2024: ## Severe Weather System to Bring Heavy Snow, Rain, and Wind Across Iran

**Tehran, Iran** – Iran’s Meteorological Organization (IMO) has issued a warning of a severe weather system expected to impact the entire country this week. The system, arriving from the northwest Tuesday afternoon, will bring widespread rain, snow in mountainous regions, hail, strong winds, and a significant temperature drop.

The heaviest precipitation is expected in northwestern provinces such as West Azerbaijan, East Azerbaijan, western Kurdistan, and Kermanshah, as well as northeastern Khuzestan. Significant snowfall is predicted in higher altitudes. Western Fars and Bushehr provinces, and the southern slopes of the Alborz mountain range (including Qazvin, Alborz, and Tehran provinces) will experience increased cloud cover and scattered showers Tuesday afternoon.

The system’s intensity will increase Wednesday, particularly in the southwest and west, with heavy downpours, thunderstorms, strong winds, and hail in mountainous areas. The heaviest rainfall is forecast for southern West Azerbaijan, western Kurdistan, Kermanshah, Ilam, and Lorestan. By Thursday, the northwestern and western border regions will see reduced rainfall, but northern provinces will experience cloud cover, rain, and lower temperatures as northerly winds reach the Caspian Sea coast. Rain and wind will also affect central, eastern, and southern regions, with particularly heavy rainfall in eastern Khuzestan, Lorestan, Chaharmahal and Bakhtiari, Kohgiluyeh and Boyer-Ahmad, and northern and western Fars.

Northern coastal areas, the southern Alborz slopes, and northeastern Iran will see rain, thunderstorms, and wind on Friday, with snow in the mountains. Mazandaran, Golestan, and North Khorasan provinces will experience the heaviest rainfall. Central, southern, eastern, and southeastern Iran will also see increased cloud cover, scattered showers, and wind. The system is expected to clear from the northeast by Friday evening.

**Orange Alert for Significant Temperature Drop:**

The IMO has issued an orange alert for a significant temperature drop from Thursday, December 7th to Saturday, December 9th, affecting 22 provinces. This cold snap poses a risk to agricultural products and machinery. The IMO has provided recommendations to mitigate the damage, including protecting crops, livestock, and greenhouses from the cold.

The IMO advises residents to take precautions due to the severe weather conditions and potential for significant disruption. Strong winds are expected across much of the country, with dust storms possible in central, eastern, and southeastern regions. The Caspian Sea will be rough from Wednesday to Friday.
