Mon Nov 25 14:14:08 UTC 2024: ## Bangladesh Avoids Follow-on, but Still Trails West Indies in Antigua Test

**ANTIGUA –** Bangladesh narrowly escaped the follow-on on day three of the first Test against the West Indies in Antigua, but still faces a significant uphill battle to avoid defeat. Resuming at 40-2 in response to West Indies’ 450/9 declared, Bangladesh reached 269/9 at the close of play, still trailing by 181 runs.

Despite several key wickets falling, including Mominul Haque’s 50 and Litton Das’ 40, Jaker Ali’s resilient half-century (53) and crucial contributions from Taijul Islam and the lower order helped Bangladesh surpass the follow-on mark. Alzarri Joseph led the West Indies bowling attack with 3-69, while Kemar Roach and Jayden Seales also picked up important wickets.

Bad light brought a premature end to proceedings, leaving Bangladesh with a daunting task on day four. They will need a significant improvement in their batting performance and a strong bowling effort to avoid a defeat in the first Test of the two-match series.
