TIRUPATI, Andhra Pradesh – The ongoing investigation into allegations of adulteration in the famed Tirumala laddus has taken a new turn with a raid on a dairy in Tamil Nadu. Eleven SIT officers from Andhra Pradesh conducted inspections at AR Dairy in Dindigul, Tamil Nadu, on November 24th, 2024. The dairy is suspected of supplying adulterated ghee used in the production of the laddus.
The controversy initially erupted following allegations by then Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu, sparking a national debate and a flurry of accusations between political parties. The issue even led to Jana Sena Party leader and Deputy CM Pawan Kalyan undertaking an 11-day penance and a pilgrimage to Tirumala. His subsequent comments led to legal action in Madurai, and counter-complaints filed by Jana Sena leaders against those who trolled him. The dispute also involved a separate controversy between actors Prakash Raj and Pawan Kalyan.
Following the initial uproar, the Supreme Court ordered a special SIT investigation, which has now intensified with the raid on the dairy. The investigation is expected to determine whether adulteration occurred and to bring those responsible to account. The TTD chairman, B.R. Naidu, has vowed to maintain the sanctity of the laddus. The outcome of the investigation is eagerly awaited by devotees across India.
