Mon Nov 25 10:32:45 UTC 2024: ## Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Inaugurates First-of-its-Kind Rehabilitation Center in Chennai
**Chennai, November 25, 2024** – Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin inaugurated the “Vizhuthugal – One Stop Centre,” a groundbreaking rehabilitation center for people with disabilities, in Sholinganallur, Chennai. This is the first center in India to integrate services from specialists in special education, optometry, audiology, speech therapy, physiotherapy, occupational therapy, and psychological counseling under one roof.
The center, established by the Department for the Welfare of Differently Abled Persons, is part of a World Bank-assisted project aiming to provide integrated services to individuals with disabilities. A total of 273 such centers are planned. The Vizhuthugal center, refurbished at a cost of ₹3.08 crore, adheres to the Union government’s Harmonized Guidelines 2021 for building design and is empaneled under the Chief Minister’s Comprehensive Health Insurance Scheme.
During the inauguration, Chief Minister Stalin interacted with beneficiaries and their families. He was accompanied by Health Minister Ma. Subramanian, Chennai Mayor R. Priya, and several legislators. In a separate event, Mr. Stalin also inaugurated a renovated school building at Chennai Middle School in Ezhil Nagar, Sholinganallur, a project completed under the ‘Namakku Naame’ initiative at a cost of ₹68 lakh.
