Mon Nov 25 10:47:07 UTC 2024: ## Singer Neha Bhasin Opens Up About Battle with Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder (PMDD)

**Mumbai, India** – Singer Neha Bhasin, known for her work in the music industry and her appearance on *Big Boss OTT*, has publicly shared her struggle with Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder (PMDD). In an emotional Instagram post, Bhasin revealed that she has been managing the condition since her teenage years, highlighting the impact of low progesterone levels on her mental health in 2022. She emphasized the importance of breaking the silence surrounding such conditions, stating that enduring pain in silence is unfair.

PMDD, explained by Dr. Vaishali Joshi, senior Obstetrician & Gynaecologist at Kokilaben Ambani Hospital, is a severe form of PMS characterized by extreme mood swings, irritability, depression, and anxiety in the days leading up to menstruation. These symptoms, often linked to hormonal imbalances like PCOS and a serotonin deficiency, significantly impact daily life and mental well-being. Dr. Joshi detailed a range of symptoms, including intense mood swings, anger, withdrawal from social activities, changes in sleep patterns, and physical symptoms such as bloating and breast tenderness. The presence of at least five of these symptoms consistently before menstruation for several years is indicative of PMDD.

According to Dr. Joshi, treatment often involves lifestyle modifications, such as a healthy diet, regular exercise, yoga, meditation, and stress management techniques. In some cases, hormonal therapy or psychiatric medication may be necessary.

Dr. Joshi also offered preventative measures, advising a balanced diet rich in whole grains, lean proteins, and fruits and vegetables, along with reduced caffeine, sugar, and alcohol consumption. Regular aerobic exercise, mindfulness practices, sufficient sleep, and maintaining a menstrual diary to track symptom onset were also recommended.

Bhasin’s candid disclosure aims to raise awareness about PMDD and encourage open conversations about mental health issues related to menstruation. The singer’s vulnerability underscores the need for greater understanding and support for individuals affected by this debilitating condition.
