Sun Nov 24 21:56:19 UTC 2024: ## Shami Shatters Predictions, Fetches ₹10 Crore in IPL Auction

**Jeddah, Saudi Arabia:** Mohammed Shami defied predictions and became a hot commodity at the IPL 2025 auction, selling to Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) for a staggering ₹10 crore. The sale marks a significant comeback for the pacer, who recently returned from a long injury layoff.

Shami’s impressive performance at the auction directly countered a recent prediction by former cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar, who had suggested the bowler wouldn’t fetch a high price. Shami responded to Manjrekar’s comments on Instagram with a pointed message.

The bidding war for Shami was intense, with Kolkata Knight Riders and Chennai Super Kings initially vying for his services, before Lucknow Super Giants joined the fray. Ultimately, SRH secured the prized pacer.

Despite missing the 2024 season due to injury and being released by Gujarat Titans, Shami’s achievements, including becoming India’s leading wicket-taker in the 2023 World Cup and setting a record for fastest to 50 wickets in World Cup history, clearly impressed the franchises. His seven-wicket haul in the 2023 World Cup semi-final remains a testament to his skill.

The auction also saw Rishabh Pant become the most expensive player in IPL history, purchased by Lucknow Super Giants for ₹27 crore, while Shreyas Iyer went to Punjab Kings for ₹26.75 crore.
