**SAMBHAL, Uttar Pradesh, India –** A 24-hour internet shutdown has been imposed in Sambhal Tehsil, Uttar Pradesh, following violent clashes that resulted in three deaths on Sunday. The violence erupted during a survey of the Shahi Jama Masjid, sparked by a team’s arrival to conduct a fresh assessment linked to a legal petition claiming the mosque was originally a temple.
Local residents reportedly attacked security personnel and threw stones at police after the survey team arrived at the mosque. Police responded with tear gas to disperse the crowds. Schools in the affected area have also been closed. The survey is part of a legal process initiated by senior advocate Vishnu Shankar Jain. The district administration implemented the internet suspension in an attempt to control the situation and prevent further unrest.
