Mon Nov 25 17:28:04 UTC 2024: **IPL Auction 2025: Sam Curran Sold to CSK for a Relatively Low Price**

CHENNAI, INDIA – November 25, 2024 – Sam Curran, the England all-rounder who fetched a record-breaking ₹18.5 crore in last year’s IPL auction, was acquired by Chennai Super Kings (CSK) for ₹2.4 crore in the 2025 IPL mega auction. This represents a significant drop from his previous price.

Curran, considered one of the world’s best all-rounders, played for Punjab Kings in the 2023 season. However, despite his previous high price tag, Punjab Kings did not retain him, making him available in the auction. CSK secured his services in a bidding war with Lucknow Super Giants.

Curran’s IPL journey has been a rollercoaster. He was initially drafted by Kings XI Punjab (now Punjab Kings) in 2019 for ₹7.2 crore, impressing with 10 wickets in his debut season. After being released by Punjab in 2020, he was picked up by CSK. He then returned to Punjab Kings in 2023 for the record-breaking fee, only to be released again after a season where he scored 276 runs and took 16 wickets in 14 matches.

Despite his fluctuating IPL performance, Curran remains a sought-after player, also participating in leagues such as The Hundred (Oval Invincibles) and the SA20 (MI Cape Town). The relatively low price paid by CSK for Curran this year has surprised many, given his talent and international reputation.
