**Perth, Australia –** Indian captain Rohit Sharma arrived in Perth on Sunday, just days after welcoming a son, and immediately joined the team celebrating their historic Test victory over Australia. He was spotted in the nets on Monday, practicing with the pink ball ahead of the second Test, a day/nighter in Adelaide starting December 6th.
Sharma faced reserve pacers Navdeep Saini, Yash Dayal, and Mukesh Kumar during a net session, honing his skills for the unique challenges of the pink ball. Veteran spinner Ravindra Jadeja also bowled, while Sharma worked on his pull shots with throw-downs from Nuwan Senaviratne. A video even showed veteran Australian batsman David Warner observing Sharma’s net session.
Jasprit Bumrah, Player of the Match with eight wickets in the first Test, welcomed Sharma’s arrival, stating his willingness to assist the captain in any way possible. While Sharma showed flashes of brilliance during his net session, he also experienced some misses, indicating a focus on regaining match fitness.
The Indian team will travel to Canberra on Wednesday for a two-day tour match beginning November 30th, which, while not a first-class match, will serve as crucial preparation for the Adelaide Test, particularly given it’s also a day/night fixture. Sharma is expected to participate in the Canberra game to acclimate to the pink Kookaburra and the unique challenges it presents, especially during the twilight period.
