**LUCKNOW, INDIA** – The Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) have secured the services of star Indian cricketer Rishabh Pant for a staggering ₹27 crore (approximately US$3.3 million) at the IPL Mega Auction. While LSG initially bid ₹20.75 crore, the final price reflects the intense competition for Pant’s talent.

The high price tag is partly explained by a new auction rule. The “Right to Match” (RTM) clause allows a franchise to retain a player from their previous squad, even if another team bids higher. However, this year’s auction modified the RTM process. The highest bid made for a player during the auction sets the maximum price the original franchise can match. If they choose not to match the highest bid, the player joins the team that placed that bid.

This rule played a crucial role in Pant’s acquisition. While Delhi Capitals, his previous team, had the RTM option, they opted not to match LSG’s ₹27 crore bid. Other players, including Arshdeep Singh, Sam Curran, and Rachin Ravindra, also saw their original teams utilize this revised RTM clause to retain them. The Lucknow Super Giants ultimately won the bidding war for Pant, securing the coveted wicket-keeper batsman for their team.
