**DHAKA, Bangladesh** – The Bangladesh government has vehemently denied reports circulating on several television stations that 22 security personnel have been dismissed following recommendations from the Commission of Inquiry into enforced disappearances. In a statement released Monday, Deputy Press Secretary Abul Kalam Azad Majumder stated that the news is entirely fabricated.
Majumder quoted Justice Moyeenul Islam Chowdhury, head of the commission, as confirming that the body made no such recommendations. Justice Chowdhury reportedly called the reports “bogus news” and a “lie.” The government is urging the television stations that broadcast the false information to issue corrections.
