Mon Nov 25 07:23:47 UTC 2024: ## Modi Attacks Opposition Ahead of Parliament’s Winter Session

**New Delhi:** Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched a scathing attack on the opposition Congress party today, accusing them of disrespecting Parliament and democracy. Speaking to the media before the commencement of the Parliament’s winter session, Modi expressed hope for productive discussions but criticized the opposition’s conduct.

He asserted that those repeatedly rejected by the electorate are attempting to disrupt parliamentary proceedings through “hooliganism.” This comes on the heels of the BJP-led Mahayuti coalition’s landslide victory in the Maharashtra Assembly elections, where the opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) was reduced to a mere 49 seats out of 288. Modi pointed out that some opposition parties have faced electoral defeat “80-90 times,” yet continue to obstruct parliamentary debate.

Modi stated that the opposition lacks respect for democracy and fails to understand the aspirations of the people. He emphasized the importance of Parliament and its members engaging in healthy discussions, urging greater participation in legislative processes.

The winter session, marking the beginning of the 75th year of the Constitution’s adoption, is expected to see the introduction of several key bills, including the potentially controversial “One Nation One Election” bill. Other significant legislation slated for discussion includes the Waqf Amendment Bill, the Disaster Management (Amendment) Bill, a Banking Laws (Amendment) Bill, and amendments to the Railway Act. The session is scheduled to run until December 20.
