Sun Nov 24 19:22:56 UTC 2024: ## Shami Shatters Manjrekar’s Prediction, Fetches ₹10 Crore in IPL 2025 Auction

**Jeddah, Saudi Arabia:** Mohammed Shami proved Sanjay Manjrekar wrong in a spectacular fashion at the IPL 2025 auction on Sunday. The Indian pacer was sold to Sunrisers Hyderabad for a whopping ₹10 crore (approximately $1.2 million USD), significantly exceeding his previous price of ₹6.25 crore and defying Manjrekar’s prediction that he wouldn’t fetch a high price.

A fierce bidding war ensued, with Kolkata Knight Riders initiating the bidding and Chennai Super Kings quickly joining the fray. The bidding reached ₹8.25 crore before Chennai withdrew, only to be followed by Lucknow Super Giants pushing the price up to ₹9.75 crore. Ultimately, Sunrisers Hyderabad secured Shami’s services with a final bid of ₹10 crore, after Gujarat Titans declined to retain him through their Right to Match (RTM) option.

Shami’s impressive performance in the auction comes after a period of injury and follows a public retort to Manjrekar’s earlier comments. On Instagram, Shami posted a message seemingly directed at the former cricketer, celebrating his success and suggesting Manjrekar seek his advice on future predictions.

This acquisition marks Sunrisers Hyderabad’s first signing of the IPL 2025 auction, after retaining five players: Heinrich Klaasen, Pat Cummins, Travis Head, Abhishek Sharma, and Nitish Kumar Reddy. Shami is expected to rejoin the Indian team shortly for the upcoming Border-Gavaskar Trophy against Australia.
