Sun Nov 24 19:00:00 UTC 2024: ## Mahayuti Sweeps Maharashtra Assembly Elections, Inflation Tops Voter Concerns

**Mumbai, November 25, 2024** – The Mahayuti alliance secured a decisive victory in the Maharashtra Assembly elections, marking a significant turnaround from the Lok Sabha elections held earlier this year. While inflation emerged as the top concern for voters, according to a Lokniti-CSDS survey, the Mahayuti successfully mitigated its impact.

A quarter of voters cited inflation as their primary concern, followed by unemployment (21%) and agricultural issues (13%). However, the survey revealed that a significant portion of voters blamed both the state and central governments for these issues, preventing them from becoming major obstacles for the Mahayuti.

Interestingly, the candidate, rather than party affiliation, played a dominant role in voter decisions. Nearly half of voters prioritized the candidate, with over half of those candidate-focused voters choosing the Mahayuti. This suggests the alliance’s success stemmed from a combination of addressing voter concerns and strong candidate appeal. The Mahayuti’s ability to connect with voters across several key issues, coupled with its focus on individual candidates, proved crucial in securing its victory. The selection of the new Chief Minister remains pending.
