Mon Nov 25 07:30:58 UTC 2024: ## Maharashtra Election Results Show Divided Support for ‘Double-Engine’ Government

**Mumbai, November 25, 2024** – A new survey by Lokniti-CSDS reveals a split opinion among Maharashtra voters regarding the effectiveness of a “double-engine” government (where the same party controls both the state and central governments). While 38% of voters supported the concept, a slightly larger percentage (42%) felt it unnecessary for state development.

Despite the divided opinion, the ruling Mahayuti alliance benefited from strong support among voters favoring the “double-engine” model. Sixty percent of those who supported the idea voted for Mahayuti, compared to 26% who voted for the opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA). Interestingly, even among those who opposed the “double-engine” concept, 40% still voted for Mahayuti, while 37% opted for MVA. The remaining 20% of voters expressed no opinion on the matter but leaned towards Mahayuti.

Professor Sanjay Kumar, Co-Director at Lokniti-CSDS, attributes the Mahayuti’s success to a significant swing of voters, irrespective of their stance on the “double-engine” government. The strong regional presence of parties in Maharashtra’s political landscape likely contributed to the divided public opinion on this issue, contrasting with BJP-ruled states.
