**Mumbai, November 25, 2024** – The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has secured a significant victory in the 2024 Maharashtra Assembly elections, emerging as the single largest party and bolstering its allies, according to a new Lokniti-CSDS survey. This win comes despite the BJP’s setback in the recent Lok Sabha elections.
The survey, conducted between November 13th and 18th, interviewed 3,959 respondents across 40 Assembly constituencies. Researchers employed a multi-stage random sampling method to ensure a representative sample of the state’s electorate. The study, led by Sanjay Kumar, Suhas Palshikar, and Sandeep Shastri, suggests that the Mahayuti alliance’s success is attributed to favorable voter assessments of the incumbent government, Narendra Modi’s leadership, and the alliance’s appeal for Hindu unity.
The survey highlights the ongoing fluidity of Maharashtra’s political landscape, marked by coalition shifts and party splits in recent years. The BJP’s strong showing, despite the national-level losses, underscores the complex dynamics at play and the resilience of the Mahayuti alliance in the state. The results suggest that the Lok Sabha election results did not necessarily predict the outcome of the state assembly elections.
