**KOZHIKODE, November 25, 2024** – The Krishna Menon Museum and Art Gallery in Kozhikode hosted a vibrant World Heritage Day celebration on Sunday, culminating in a captivating performance of *Kandakarnan Thira*. Hundreds attended the event, which featured the dramatic Thira, a traditional dance with 14 torches attached to its body, symbolizing humanity’s resilience against contagious diseases, notably smallpox, as evidenced by the marks on its face.
The *Kandakarnan Thira* performance was preceded by a solo Kuzhal Pattu, a showcase of the wind instrument Kuzhal, typically used as accompaniment to the Chenda drum. A Pancharimelam, a traditional percussion ensemble, followed.
Other highlights of the day included a Kuruthola workshop for students from the pre-metric hostel (Department of Scheduled Tribe Welfare), a Heritage Quiz for upper and high school students, and a Duff Mutt performance by the Government Higher Secondary School, Kokkallur.
