**NEW DELHI** – The Delhi Capitals (DC) have acquired South African batting star Faf du Plessis for his base price of ₹2 crore in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 auction held on November 25th. Du Plessis, who captained the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in IPL 2024, was not retained by the franchise.

The veteran batsman, who made his IPL debut with Chennai Super Kings in 2012, has a rich history in the league, also playing for Rising Pune Supergiant. Across 145 matches and 138 innings, he boasts an impressive average of 35.99 and a strike rate of 136.36, accumulating 4,571 runs, including 37 fifties and a highest score of 96. High expectations surround his performance in the upcoming season.

This acquisition comes after DC’s significant retention of Axar Patel for a whopping ₹16.5 crore. The franchise also retained Kuldeep Yadav (₹13.25 crore), Tristan Stubbs (₹10 crore), and Abhishek Porel (₹4 crore). In a surprising move, DC released their captain Rishabh Pant, who had been with the franchise since 2016.
