**Chennai, November 25, 2024** – The Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT Madras) Pravartak Technologies Foundation launched a new Center for Human-Centric Artificial Intelligence (CHAI) on November 14th. Located at the IIT Madras research park, the center aims to develop AI technologies that enhance human potential and address societal challenges.

CHAI will collaborate with government agencies, industries, startups, and researchers to create AI solutions applicable both domestically and internationally. The center’s scope includes enhancing human capabilities, citizen protection, and the amplification of social values through culture and heritage.

Speaking at the inauguration, IIT Madras Director V. Kamakoti highlighted the diverse applications of AI systems that CHAI will explore. Lt. Gen. K.S. Brar emphasized the importance of AI serving humanity and fostering a better world. Gaurav Raina, CHAI’s chief scientist, noted the center’s alignment with Industry 5.0 principles, prioritizing human-centricity and sustainability.

IIT Madras Pravartak, a Section 8 company funded by the Department of Science and Technology, is already involved in significant national projects with the Supreme Court, Parliament, and the Indian Army. The establishment of CHAI represents a further commitment to leveraging AI for the benefit of society.
