**New Delhi, November 25, 2024** – The Indian government announced the launch of the ₹1,435 crore PAN 2.0 Project, aimed at modernizing taxpayer services and establishing the Permanent Account Number (PAN) as a universal identifier across government digital systems. The project, approved by the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA), will leverage technology to streamline registration processes, improve service delivery, and enhance data security.

Information and Broadcasting Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw stated that PAN 2.0 will achieve a technology-driven transformation, leading to easier access and faster service delivery. The project promises a single source of truth for data, eco-friendly processes, cost optimization, and improved infrastructure security and agility. The initiative aligns with the government’s Digital India vision, utilizing PAN as a common identifier across various government agencies.

The project will re-engineer the business processes of PAN/TAN services, upgrading the existing system and consolidating core and non-core activities, including PAN validation. Currently, approximately 78 crore PANs have been issued, with 98% allocated to individuals. The PAN 2.0 Project is expected to significantly improve the digital experience for taxpayers.
