**KOCHI, INDIA (November 24, 2024)** – A 75-year-old Irish national, Ryszard Holowenko, was found dead in his Fort Kochi homestay on Sunday, November 24th. Dengue fever is suspected as the cause of death.

Mr. Holowenko had reportedly been experiencing fever since before his death and sought treatment at Fort Kochi Government Hospital on Friday, November 22nd. He tested positive for dengue on Saturday and was advised to continue with medication and a nutritious diet as his platelet count was considered acceptable.

The homestay operator alerted local authorities after Mr. Holowenko’s room remained unopened on Sunday. Police subsequently opened the room and discovered the deceased tourist in his bed. His son and the UK embassy have been notified. His body is currently at Ernakulam General Hospital, pending a potential death audit to determine the precise cause of death. Further investigation is underway.
