**New Delhi** – The National Students’ Union of India (NSUI), the Congress-affiliated student body, has secured a significant victory in the Delhi University Students’ Union (DUSU) elections, winning the coveted president’s post. Rounak Khatri, the NSUI presidential candidate, defeated Rishabh Chaudhary of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) by a margin of 1,300 votes. This marks NSUI’s first presidential win since 2017 and their first time securing two central posts since then.
The ABVP, affiliated with the RSS, secured the vice-president’s position with Bhanu Pratap Singh claiming victory. Mitravinda Karanwal (ABVP) won the secretary’s post, while Lokesh Choudhary (NSUI) secured the joint secretary’s position.
The announcement of the results, initially scheduled for September 28th, was delayed following a Delhi High Court order mandating the removal of election-related defacement before the declaration.
Khatri attributed his win to a focus on “politics of performance,” contrasting it with what he termed “false promises” from opponents. He pledged to prioritize infrastructure development across the university, promising improvements similar to those recently implemented in the law faculty.
While NSUI claimed two central posts, the ABVP achieved a clean sweep in five college-level elections, with NSUI winning in two. A total of 21 candidates contested for the four central posts. The key contenders in the overall DUSU elections were the ABVP, NSUI, and a Left-alliance comprising the All India Students’ Association (AISA) and the Students’ Federation of India (SFI).
