Mon Nov 25 11:34:46 UTC 2024: ## Anantapur Police Deploy Drones to Combat Crime

**Anantapur, Andhra Pradesh, November 25, 2024** – Anantapur police have implemented a new strategy to curb crime, particularly offenses linked to ganja (cannabis) addiction, utilizing drone surveillance in remote areas. Three drones are being deployed to monitor suspicious activity and movement in the city’s outskirts, which are often inaccessible by vehicle due to dense vegetation.

The initiative, spearheaded by Superintendent of Police P Jagadeesh, aims to prevent crimes proactively. The decision followed a recent gang rape in neighboring Sri Sathya Sai district, where the perpetrators, including minors, targeted vulnerable women in secluded areas. Investigations revealed that the accused had allegedly assaulted nearly 27 women and girls, exploiting their isolation.

Police emphasized the use of drones as a preventative measure against similar incidents in Anantapur. The drones will focus on areas known for illicit ganja use and criminal activity. Initial deployments have already led to arrests of individuals consuming alcohol in public areas. Future plans include expanding drone surveillance to Guntakal and Tadipatri.
