Sun Nov 24 19:12:33 UTC 2024: ## CPI(M) Criticizes Major Tamil Nadu Parties for Refusal to Share Power

**Madurai, Tamil Nadu –** CPI(M) State secretary K. Balakrishnan criticized the DMK and AIADMK on Sunday for their unwillingness to share power with smaller parties, despite needing their support to win elections. Speaking at the party’s 24th Madurai district conference, Balakrishnan stated that while larger parties cannot win without alliances, he couldn’t explain their reluctance to share power. He contrasted this with the CPI(M)’s focus on ideological alignment rather than seeking positions of power.

Balakrishnan also targeted the BJP, highlighting the hypocrisy of opposing “freebies” in Tamil Nadu while promising similar welfare schemes in other states like Maharashtra. He further announced that “secular parties” will oppose the BJP’s proposed “One nation, One election” policy, citing concerns about its threat to the Indian Constitution.

The CPI(M) leader also expressed concerns about the DMK government’s performance after three years in office, stating that many of its promises remained unfulfilled despite acknowledging some welfare measures. He questioned the Tamil Nadu government’s delay in registering the Samsung workers’ union, suggesting possible influence from the company.

Meanwhile, Madurai MP Su. Venkatesan revealed that he had written to the Union Finance Minister, requesting a change in the date of the Chartered Accountants Foundation exam due to its conflict with the Pongal festival.
