Mon Nov 25 17:27:19 UTC 2024: ## Fadnavis Likely to be Maharashtra’s Next Chief Minister in Power-Sharing Deal

**Mumbai, India –** Devendra Fadnavis is poised to become the next Chief Minister of Maharashtra, according to multiple sources. This follows the Mahayuti alliance’s resounding victory in the recent state assembly elections, securing 235 out of 288 seats. The BJP, the alliance’s leading party with 132 seats, is expected to see Fadnavis serve as CM for the first two and a half years, after which Eknath Shinde, leader of the Shinde Sena faction (57 seats), will take over.

Eknath Shinde and Ajit Pawar, leader of the NCP faction (41 seats), will serve as Deputy Chief Ministers. The Shinde Sena is set to receive 12 ministerial berths, while the NCP will receive 10. Sources indicate that the top leadership of the BJP has approved this arrangement, which has also been endorsed by Shinde and Pawar.

A meeting between Shinde, Fadnavis, Pawar, and Home Minister Amit Shah is currently underway, after which a formal announcement is expected. The swearing-in ceremony is tentatively scheduled for November 26th in Mumbai. Following his stint as CM, Fadnavis is speculated to be appointed as the BJP’s national president. This power-sharing agreement marks a significant political development following the tumultuous events of June 2022, when Eknath Shinde’s rebellion led to the collapse of the previous government.
