Sun Nov 24 20:00:14 UTC 2024: ## Delhi Air Quality Improves Slightly, But Remains Critically Hazardous

**New Delhi, November 25, 2024** – While Delhi saw a slight improvement in overall air quality on Sunday due to increased wind speeds, hazardous particulate matter levels remained dangerously high, according to official data. The Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) reported PM2.5 levels at 159.8 micrograms per cubic metre at 8 a.m. on Saturday – more than ten times the World Health Organization’s (WHO) safe limit of 15 micrograms.

Delhi’s 24-hour average Air Quality Index (AQI) dropped to 318 on Sunday, down from 412 on Saturday. Although an improvement, this still places the AQI in the “very poor” category. The government’s Air Quality Early Warning System predicts “very poor” air quality will continue until November 27.

Stubble burning in neighboring states contributed 19.5% to Delhi’s PM2.5 levels on November 23, according to the Union Ministry of Earth Sciences. The improvement in air quality is attributed to increased surface wind speeds which helped disperse pollutants. Despite the slight improvement, the high concentration of PM2.5 remains a significant health concern.
