Mon Nov 25 08:44:59 UTC 2024: ## Coast Guard Seizes 6,000 kg of Methamphetamine near Andaman Islands

**Port Blair, November 25, 2024** – The Indian Coast Guard (ICG) has intercepted a vessel carrying a massive haul of methamphetamine near the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. The seizure, announced Monday, involved 6,000 kg of the drug, packed in approximately 3,000 two-kilogram packets, and valued at several crores of rupees on the international market.

The operation began with a Coast Guard Dornier aircraft on routine patrol spotting a suspicious fishing trawler near Barren Island on November 23rd. The trawler, carrying six Myanmarese crew members, was subsequently intercepted and towed to Port Blair on November 24th.

Authorities believe the methamphetamine was destined for India and neighboring countries. The six Myanmarese nationals have been arrested and will undergo joint interrogation with the Andaman and Nicobar Police. This is not the first such seizure in the region; similar drug busts occurred in 2019 and 2022.
