**Rio de Janeiro, November 25, 2024** – A bus accident in Brazil’s Alagoas State has claimed the lives of 23 people. The bus plunged into a ravine on a remote mountain road near the town of Uniao dos Palmares on Sunday. Authorities confirmed 22 fatalities at the scene, with a pregnant passenger succumbing to her injuries in hospital. Dozens more were injured, according to Brazilian media reports, from among the bus’s estimated 40 passengers. The accident occurred in a difficult-to-access mountainous area known as Serra da Barriga. Alagoas Governor Paulo Dantas declared three days of mourning following the tragedy.
