Mon Nov 25 04:34:25 UTC 2024: ## Chennai Super Kings Snag R. Ashwin for ₹9.75 Crore in IPL Mega Auction
**CHENNAI, INDIA** – In a thrilling bidding war at the IPL Mega Auction, the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) secured the services of star all-rounder R. Ashwin for a hefty ₹9.75 crore (approximately $1.18 million USD). Ashwin, who had a base price of ₹2 crore, was hotly contested, primarily by CSK and the Rajasthan Royals.
Despite Rajasthan’s determined efforts and ongoing negotiations throughout the bidding process, CSK’s Stephen Fleming ultimately outmaneuvered them, securing Ashwin for their team. Both teams had approximately ₹41 crore remaining in their auction purses at the time of the bid. The acquisition marks a triumphant return for Ashwin to CSK, a team he previously represented.
The Rajasthan Royals, who had expressed their strong desire to retain Ashwin, ultimately failed to win the bid, much to the disappointment of their fans. They made no other signings on the first day of the auction.
Other notable acquisitions on day one included Rishabh Pant going to Lucknow Super Giants for ₹27 crore, Shreyas Iyer and Arshdeep Singh joining Punjab Kings for ₹26.75 crore and ₹18 crore respectively, and Kagiso Rabada moving to Gujarat Titans for ₹10.75 crore.
CSK had a successful first day, also acquiring Rachin Ravindra (₹4 crore), Devon Conway, and Rahul Tripathi (₹3.4 crore). The auction continues.
