Sun Nov 24 21:56:28 UTC 2024: ## IPL Mega Auction: Rishabh Pant Shatters Records, Indian Players Dominate

**Jeddah, Nov 25, 2024** – The Indian Premier League (IPL) mega auction witnessed a dramatic shift in spending priorities, with Indian players commanding record-breaking prices on Day 1. The usual focus on overseas talent took a backseat as franchises engaged in fierce bidding wars for domestic stars.

Rishabh Pant, released by Delhi Capitals, became the most expensive player in IPL history, fetching a staggering INR 27 crore (approximately USD 3.3 million) from Lucknow Super Giants. This eclipsed the previous record held by Australian pacer Mitchell Starc (INR 24.75 crore). Interestingly, Starc was picked up by Delhi Capitals this year for a significantly lower INR 11.75 crore.

Shreyas Iyer also saw an unexpected surge in his value, going to Punjab Kings for INR 26.75 crore (approximately USD 3.2 million), the second-highest price in IPL history. This was in stark contrast to KL Rahul, who, despite being last season’s Lucknow captain, was acquired by Delhi Capitals for a relatively modest INR 14 crore (approximately USD 1.7 million).

Another surprise was the INR 23.75 crore (approximately USD 2.9 million) bid by Kolkata Knight Riders for Venkatesh Iyer, whom they had released earlier.

The auction saw a strong focus on Indian pacers. Arshdeep Singh returned to Punjab Kings after a bidding war reaching INR 18 crore (approximately USD 2.2 million), while Yuzvendra Chahal was acquired by the same franchise for the same price. Mohammed Siraj moved to Gujarat Titans for INR 12.25 crore (approximately USD 1.5 million).

Overseas players also commanded significant fees, with Jos Buttler (Gujarat Titans) securing INR 15.75 crore (approximately USD 1.9 million) as the highest-paid foreign player. Trent Boult (Mumbai Indians), Jofra Archer (Rajasthan Royals), and Josh Hazlewood (Royal Challengers Bangalore) were all acquired for INR 12.50 crore (approximately USD 1.5 million).

Among uncapped players, Rinku Singh’s performance at the auction was remarkable. Initially picked by RCB for INR 2 crore, Delhi Capitals triggered their right-to-match, forcing RCB to raise their bid significantly, eventually purchasing him for INR 6 crore (approximately USD 0.7 million).

While some notable players like David Warner remained unsold, Day 1 of the auction generated a total of INR 467.95 crore (approximately USD 57 million) for 72 players. The auction concludes on Monday. The significant investment in Indian players marks a significant shift in IPL auction strategy.
