**Lucknow, India** – Sameer Rizvi, a Uttar Pradesh domestic cricketer, experienced a dramatic fall in his IPL auction price. After being purchased by Chennai Super Kings (CSK) for a staggering ₹8.4 crore in 2024, Rizvi was picked up by Delhi Capitals this year for a mere ₹95 lakhs. This represents an 884% decrease in his IPL salary.
Rizvi, currently playing in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy as a finisher for Uttar Pradesh, had a strong showing in the UP T20 League 2023 and 2024, scoring 455 and 469 runs respectively. Despite his impressive form, including two centuries in 2023 and three fifties in 2024, his IPL price took a significant dip.
Interestingly, CSK, known for not typically spending crores on uncapped players, initiated the bidding for Rizvi again in 2025, with his base price set at ₹30 lakhs. However, they withdrew at ₹90 lakhs, allowing Delhi Capitals to secure him for a slightly higher bid. The auction also saw Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) make significant investments in Josh Hazlewood and Jitesh Sharma.
