Sun Nov 24 17:20:00 UTC 2024: ## Mumbai Indians Miss Out on Star Bowler Akash Madhwal in IPL 2025 Mega Auction

**Jeddah, Saudi Arabia:** The IPL 2025 mega auction saw unexpected twists and turns on its opening day, with Mumbai Indians surprisingly missing out on the acquisition of star bowler Akash Madhwal. Despite Madhwal’s impressive performances in previous IPL seasons, including a five-wicket haul, the Mumbai franchise failed to bid for him. This oversight is attributed to their prior use of the Right to Match (RTM) card on Naman Dheer, leaving them without the option to retain Madhwal.

Madhwal, a valuable asset known for his consistent line and length, ultimately went to the Rajasthan Royals for ₹1.2 crore after a bidding war with Punjab Kings. His first-class and List-A records also showcase his talent.

The Mumbai Indians, traditionally a dominant force in the IPL, have made only four other acquisitions on day one: Trent Boult, Naman Dheer, Robin Uthappa, and Karn Sharma. The team had previously retained Jasprit Bumrah, Hardik Pandya, Suryakumar Yadav, Rohit Sharma, and Tilak Varma.

The auction also saw other notable events, including ऋषभ पंत becoming the most expensive player, acquired by Lucknow Super Giants for ₹27 crore, and श्रेयस अय्यर going to Punjab Kings for ₹26.75 crore. However, the Mumbai Indians’ failure to secure Madhwal highlights a significant misstep for a franchise known for its strategic acquisitions. The auction continues.
