Sun Nov 24 19:49:44 UTC 2024: ## Sunrisers Hyderabad Snag Mohammed Shami for ₹10 Crore in IPL 2025 Mega Auction
**Jeddah, Saudi Arabia:** Veteran Indian pacer Mohammed Shami has been acquired by Sunrisers Hyderabad for ₹10 crore (approximately $1.2 million USD) in the IPL 2025 mega auction held in Jeddah. Shami, a key member of the Indian national team, was picked as the first selection in the second marquee set. This acquisition comes after Shami’s successful return to competitive cricket following knee surgery that sidelined him from the previous season. His impressive seven-wicket haul in a recent Ranji Trophy match for Bengal cemented his fitness and form.
The Sunrisers’ strategy involved attempting to acquire Rishabh Pant and Arshdeep Singh before ultimately securing Shami. The team had previously retained Pat Cummins, Abhishek Sharma, Nitish Kumar Reddy, Heinrich Klaasen, and Travis Head.
Shami’s impressive international career spans over a decade, boasting 229 Test, 195 ODI, and 24 T20 wickets. He is currently preparing for the final leg of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Australia after recovering from a right heel surgery following the 2023 World Cup.
This IPL auction saw other significant acquisitions, most notably Lucknow Super Giants’ signing of Rishabh Pant for a record-breaking ₹27 crore, making him the most expensive player in IPL history. Lucknow also secured David Miller for ₹7.5 crore and retained players like Nicholas Pooran, Ravi Bishnoi, Mayank Yadav, and Mohsin Khan. Shami’s experience and current form are expected to be valuable assets for Sunrisers Hyderabad.
