Sun Nov 24 10:38:11 UTC 2024: ## Thackeray Wins Worli in Close Maharashtra Election Contest

**Mumbai, Maharashtra –** Aditya Thackeray of the Shiv Sena (UBT) secured victory in the Worli constituency in the Maharashtra Assembly elections, defeating his closest rival, Milind Deora of the Shinde-led Shiv Sena, by a margin of 8,801 votes. Thackeray garnered 63,324 votes to Deora’s 54,523.

The election, held on November 20th, saw a significant BJP victory across the state, particularly in Thane and Palghar where they won 12 out of 18 seats. The Shinde Sena, traditionally strong in the region, managed only eight. Elsewhere, the Congress and NCP faced setbacks in Vidarbha. Anuja Kedar, wife of a Congress leader, lost to the BJP by over 26,000 votes in Saoner.

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu congratulated the BJP-led Mahayuti alliance on their win, attributing the success to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership.

The Worli contest was closely watched due to the intra-Shiv Sena rivalry. While Thackeray’s victory was decisive, the narrow margin highlights the ongoing political fragmentation within the once-dominant party. Other candidates, including those from the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena and Bahujan Samaj Party, significantly trailed the top two contenders.
