**Lucknow, India** – The National Democratic Alliance (NDA) has secured a resounding victory in the Uttar Pradesh by-elections, winning seven out of the nine contested assembly seats. The results, announced today, are being seen as a significant boost for the BJP ahead of the 2025 state assembly elections.
The BJP secured six seats, while its alliance partner, the Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD), won one. The Samajwadi Party (SP) managed to win the remaining two seats. The BJP’s victories included the highly contested Muslim-majority Kundarki constituency, where BJP candidate Ramveer Singh secured a landslide win with over 144,791 votes. This win is being hailed as a major upset, given the SP’s traditional stronghold in the area. Other notable BJP wins were in Gaziabad and Phulpur. The SP retained Karhal and Sisamau.
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath commented on the results, stating, “Divide and you will fall; unite and you will prevail.” The by-elections were considered a semi-final before the upcoming assembly elections, with both the BJP and SP vying for a strong showing. The Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) also participated, aiming to demonstrate its continuing influence.
The by-elections were marked by some controversy, particularly in the Meerapur constituency where the SP demanded a revote in certain booths. Despite these challenges, the NDA’s decisive victory has strengthened its position in the state.
