Underground flood water storage facilities to be completed on a war footing

**Hyderabad, November 24, 2024** – The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has been ordered to expedite the construction of underground floodwater storage facilities, according to Principal Secretary M. Dana Kishore. Inspecting ongoing projects on Saturday, Mr. Kishore emphasized the need for swift completion of the 12 pilot storage facilities, each with a capacity ranging from 1 to 4 million liters, designed to mitigate the impact of cloudbursts. Four facilities are already complete, with the remainder in various stages of construction.

The urgency stems from the upcoming “Praja Palana-Praja Vijayotsavam” celebrations scheduled for December 7-9 near the Tank Bund, State Secretariat, and Necklace Road. Mr. Kishore also instructed officials to ensure thorough cleaning and beautification of the surrounding areas in anticipation of large crowds. The inspection involved officials from the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority, Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply & Sewerage Board, and GHMC.
