Sat Nov 23 22:35:19 UTC 2024: ## Hyderabad’s Tilak Varma Smashes Record-Breaking 151 in Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy
**Rajkot, India –** Hyderabad captain Tilak Varma etched his name into cricketing history on Saturday, smashing a breathtaking 151 runs off just 67 balls against Meghalaya in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. This incredible innings shattered multiple records, cementing Varma’s position as one of the most exciting young talents in the game.
Varma’s knock, the highest individual score ever recorded in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, surpassed Shreyas Iyer’s previous record of 147. It also marked the highest individual T20 score by an Indian batter, a feat even more remarkable considering it was his first match in the tournament. The innings, studded with 14 fours and 10 sixes, propelled Hyderabad to an imposing 248/4.
Remarkably, this is Varma’s third consecutive T20 century, making him the first player ever to achieve this unprecedented feat. This follows his back-to-back T20I centuries for India earlier this month against South Africa, where he was also named Player of the Series. He is now only the second Indian, after Sanju Samson, to score consecutive T20I hundreds.
Varma’s consistent run-scoring has propelled him to third place in the ICC T20I Men’s Batting Rankings, making him the highest-ranked Indian T20I batter. His impressive performances have also secured his place in the Mumbai Indians team for the upcoming IPL season. With his recent achievements and a rapidly approaching 3000 T20 runs milestone, Tilak Varma’s future in international cricket appears exceptionally bright.
