Sun Nov 24 16:04:50 UTC 2024: ## Kohli Surpasses Tendulkar, Makes History in Australia

**Perth, Australia –** Virat Kohli cemented his legacy as one of India’s greatest ever batsmen, smashing his 7th Test century in Australia on Sunday to overtake Sachin Tendulkar’s record for most Test centuries Down Under. The former Indian captain’s magnificent knock at the Optus Stadium propelled India to a commanding position in the second Test against Australia.

Kohli’s 100* in India’s second innings not only surpasses Tendulkar’s 6 centuries in Australia but also takes him to joint second on the all-time list alongside Walter Hammond, behind only Jack Hobbs’ 9. This century was also his 30th Test century overall, putting him in elite company alongside Sir Don Bradman, Shivnarine Chanderpaul, and Matthew Hayden.

The innings, which included a moment of playful uncertainty about reaching triple figures before confirmation from the umpire, concluded with a joyous celebration and a nod to his wife Anushka Sharma in the stands. India declared their innings on 487/6, setting Australia a challenging 534 to win.

Kohli’s impressive Australian Test record now stands at 14 matches, 27 innings, 1457 runs, with a highest score of 169 and an average of 56.03. This was also his second Test century in Perth.

The day also saw Yashasvi Jaiswal create history, becoming only the second cricketer ever to score 150+ runs in his first four Test centuries, following in the footsteps of South Africa’s Graeme Smith. Jaiswal and KL Rahul further etched their names in the record books by achieving the first ever 200+ opening partnership for India in Australia.
