JAIPUR, INDIA – The Rajasthan Royals (RR) have announced significant changes to their squad for the upcoming IPL 2025 season. The team released several key players, most notably star wicketkeeper-batter Jos Buttler, while retaining a core group of players and strategically acquiring new talent through the auction.
Sanju Samson and Yashasvi Jaiswal were retained for a hefty Rs 18 crore each, demonstrating their importance to the team’s strategy. Other retained players include Riyan Parag and Dhruv Jurel (both for Rs 14 crore each), Shimron Hetmyer (Rs 11 crore), and Sandeep Sharma (Rs 4 crore). This retention strategy left the Royals with Rs 41 crore to spend at the auction.
The Royals aggressively pursued several key players in the auction, securing Jofra Archer (Rs 12.5 crore), Maheesh Theekshana (Rs 4.4 crore), Wanindu Hasaranga (Rs 5.25 crore), and Akash Madhwal (Rs 1.2 crore).
Notable players released by RR include Jos Buttler, Ravichandran Ashwin, Yuzvendra Chahal, and Trent Boult, among others. The team’s decision to part ways with these veteran players signifies a shift in their long-term strategy. The acquisitions at the auction, however, suggest a focus on bolstering both batting and bowling departments. The Royals will enter the 2025 season with a considerably altered but potentially powerful squad.
