Sun Nov 24 00:15:30 UTC 2024: ## Mixed fortunes for Deshmukh brothers in Maharashtra election
**Latur, Maharashtra –** The Maharashtra Assembly election results delivered a mixed bag for the Deshmukh family. While Amit Deshmukh, elder brother of Bollywood actor Riteish Deshmukh, secured a victory for the Indian National Congress (INC) in Latur City, his younger brother Dhiraj suffered a narrow defeat in Latur Rural.
Amit Deshmukh, a three-time MLA, triumphed over BJP candidate Archana Patil Chakurkar by over 7,000 votes. This win marks his fourth term representing Latur City. Meanwhile, Dhiraj Deshmukh, the incumbent MLA, lost to BJP’s Ramesh Karad by a margin of over 6,000 votes.
Latur Rural saw the highest voter turnout at 69.92%, while Latur City recorded the lowest among the six constituencies at 62.74%. Riteish Deshmukh himself had urged young voters to participate in the elections earlier this month.
The overall election saw a landslide victory for the BJP-led Mahayuti alliance, securing over 200 seats and defeating the Congress-led Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA).
