Sat Nov 23 20:27:55 UTC 2024: ## BJP Wins Big in Rajasthan By-elections, Defeating Congress in Key Seats
**Jaipur, Rajasthan –** The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has secured a surprising victory in the Rajasthan Assembly by-elections, winning a majority of the seven contested seats. The results, announced late this evening after a closely watched count, mark a significant setback for the ruling Congress party.
The BJP’s wins include high-profile constituencies like Khinvsar and Jhunjhunu. In Khinvsar, BJP’s Revantram Danga defeated RLP’s Kanika Beniwal, wife of Hanuman Beniwal. In Jhunjhunu, BJP candidate Rajendra Bhambhu secured a landslide victory over Congress’ Amit Ola, with a margin exceeding 42,000 votes. Other BJP wins include Ramgarh, where Sukhwant Singh edged out Congress’ Aryan Khan in a close race, and Devli-Uniyara.
While Congress managed to retain a couple of seats, the BJP’s performance surpassed expectations, particularly in seats traditionally considered strongholds of other parties. For instance, the BJP made inroads into areas previously dominated by the Bharatiya Adiwasi Party (BAP), nearly securing a win in Chaurasi.
The counting process, spread across 141 rounds, involved over 3 lakh voters and 1472 polling officials across 307 polling booths. Khinvsar recorded the highest voter turnout at 75.62%. The contest primarily saw a head-to-head battle between the BJP and Congress, though other parties, including the RLP and BAP, also fielded candidates. The BJP’s decisive wins signal a potential shift in the state’s political landscape ahead of future elections.
