Sat Nov 23 19:37:37 UTC 2024: ## MNS Shut Out in Maharashtra Assembly Elections; Amit Thackeray’s Debut Ends in Defeat
**Mumbai, [Date]** – The Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) suffered a crushing defeat in the state assembly elections, failing to win a single seat out of the 128 constituencies it contested. This marks a dramatic fall from the party’s 2009 debut, where it secured 13 seats. The party’s vote share plummeted to a mere 1.60%, with many candidates losing their deposits.
The most significant setback was the loss of MNS chief Raj Thackeray’s son, Amit Thackeray, in his maiden election bid in the Mahim constituency. Amit finished a distant third, securing only 31,611 votes. The victory went to Mahesh Sawant of Uddhav Thackeray’s Shiv Sena faction.
Other prominent MNS candidates also suffered heavy defeats. Avinash Jadhav lost by a staggering 77,477 votes in Thane, while Pramod Patil, a 2019 winner, lost by over 66,000 votes. Even in Worli, Sandeep Deshpande trailed Aaditya Thackeray (Raj Thackeray’s nephew) by nearly 44,000 votes.
Analysts attribute the MNS’s downfall to inconsistent messaging and erratic alliances over the years, leaving voters uncertain about the party’s political stance. The party, founded in 2006 on a platform of advocating for Marathi people, initially gained traction but has struggled to maintain momentum. Amit Thackeray’s campaign, despite extensive efforts, failed to resonate with voters. The results highlight a significant decline in the party’s influence in Maharashtra politics.
