**CHENNAI, INDIA (November 24, 2024)** – Oscar-winning composer A.R. Rahman’s legal counsel has issued a cease-and-desist notice to individuals spreading false information about his personal life and divorce on social media platforms. The notice, issued by Advocate Narmadha Sampath, targets users of YouTube, Facebook, Instagram, and X (formerly Twitter) who are sharing fabricated stories about the reasons behind Rahman’s separation from Saira Banu.
According to the lawyer, numerous interviews containing unfounded claims about the divorce are circulating online, causing significant reputational damage to Rahman. The notice alleges that these individuals are creating false narratives for cheap publicity.
Ms. Sampath stated that the social media platforms themselves bear some responsibility for the damage caused by the abusive and obscene content, which violates their own community guidelines. The notice demands the immediate removal of all defamatory content within 24 hours. Failure to comply will result in the initiation of criminal defamation proceedings. Copies of the legal notice have been sent to the operators of the platforms.
