**Thrissur, Kerala – November 24, 2024** – A man posing as a gospel preacher has been arrested for allegedly duping parents of crores of rupees in an MBBS admission scam. Jacob Thomas, from Pathanamthitta, was apprehended at Chennai International Airport while attempting to flee to Malaysia.
Thomas, who claimed connections to Christian Medical College Vellore’s staff and administration, promised parents admission to the prestigious medical college through a staff quota. He targeted families across Kerala and other states, defrauding victims of amounts ranging from ₹60 lakh to ₹80 lakh. He operated while residing in various states including Bihar, Haryana, and Tamil Nadu.
The Thrissur police arrested Thomas following a lookout notice and a non-bailable warrant issued by the Thrissur CJM Court. He has been remanded in custody after appearing before a magistrate. Multiple cases have been registered against him in various police stations across Kerala, including Thrissur West, Angamaly, Koratti, Pala, Pandalam, and Adoor.
This arrest follows the earlier apprehension of Pastor Paul Gladson, who falsely presented himself as a bishop, along with pastors Vijayakumar and Anu Samuel, and Thomas’ son Reynard, all implicated in the scam.
