Sun Nov 24 16:04:46 UTC 2024: ## Congress Retains Nanded Lok Sabha Seat in Close Bypoll Victory
**Nanded, Maharashtra –** Congress candidate Ravindra Chavan secured a narrow victory in the Nanded Lok Sabha bypoll held on Saturday, defeating BJP’s Santukrao Hambarde by a mere 1,457 votes. Chavan garnered 586,788 votes compared to Hambarde’s 585,331. The by-election was necessitated by the death of sitting Congress MP Vasant Chavan in August. Ravindra Chavan, Vasant Chavan’s son, inherited his father’s seat, continuing the Congress’s hold on the constituency.
The win marks a significant development in the volatile political landscape of Nanded. The seat has witnessed fluctuating fortunes in recent elections. In 2019, the BJP’s Pratap Patil Chikhalikar won, while Vasant Chavan reclaimed it for the Congress in the 2024 general elections. Further complicating the political dynamics, Ashok Chavan shifted allegiance to the BJP earlier this year, while Chikhalikar joined the Ajit Pawar faction of the NCP. Chikhalikar is currently contesting the Loha assembly seat.
