Sun Nov 24 10:15:02 UTC 2024: ## Ajit Pawar’s NCP Faction Triumphs in Maharashtra Assembly Elections

**Mumbai, India –** Ajit Pawar’s faction of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) achieved a resounding victory in the Maharashtra Assembly elections, securing 41 of the 59 contested seats against Sharad Pawar’s breakaway NCP (SP) faction. This decisive win marks a significant comeback for Ajit Pawar after a rebellion last year that split the party.

In a series of intra-party clashes, Ajit Pawar’s faction decisively defeated Sharad Pawar’s group in 29 constituencies. Notable victories included Ajit Pawar’s triumph over his nephew, Yugendra Pawar, by over 1 lakh votes. Other prominent wins for Ajit Pawar’s faction included victories by ministers Chhagan Bhujbal and Aditi Tatkare.

While Sharad Pawar’s NCP (SP) secured only 10 seats, its vote share (11.28%) marginally exceeded that of Ajit Pawar’s faction (9.01%). The BJP-led Mahayuti alliance, which includes Ajit Pawar’s NCP, secured a commanding 235 seats in the election. The BJP emerged as the single largest party with 132 seats, followed by Eknath Shinde’s Shiv Sena (57 seats) and Ajit Pawar’s NCP (41 seats). The opposition alliance won a mere 49 seats.

The election results solidify Ajit Pawar’s position within the state’s political landscape, highlighting the significant shift in power dynamics within the NCP following last year’s rebellion.
